Thanks for reaching out Rich, surely understand your concern.

Bikes or the bike rack contacting your vehicle is never a good thing. For your 2026 Kia Sportage, the Curt hitch # C94WR is going to be a solid choice, especially for bike rack clearance. This hitch has a 525lb tongue weight capacity, that's plenty for bike racks.

What rack do you have? What kind of bikes are you carrying?

Unfortunately I cant upload photos, but the rack fit fine on my Kia Sportage 26 PHEV. The nice thing is that the hitch doesnt prodtrude out the back of the car, it doesnt come as far as the bumper, but the rack I have has a 10" tongue so it fits fine and sticks out enough so as the rack isnt too close to the car.

I mounted this hitch to my’25 Tucson. It’s been great; I just wish the receiver extended out another inch or so because it’s awkward reaching down under there to attach/detach my bike rack. Otherwise this hitch fits nicely.

@Dan appreciate the feedback, it’s helpful for others considering the same setup! Some vehicles do sit the hitch a bit farther under the bumper, which can make accessing it a little less convenient. One simple option is using a short hitch extender like # e88yr to bring the receiver out slightly for easier access. Using a hitch extender will reduce your hitch's overall capacity by 50 percent, so I'd suggest making sure your bikes don't exceed the weight capacity after adding the extender.
