Can 45 Amp Progressive Dynamics Panel Replace a 30 Amp Panel

Updated 04/30/2026 | Published 04/26/2026

Question:

Hi there. I have a 2017 Aliner Expedition with the original WF-8735-P. We would like to convert to lithium and have purchased a LiTime 12.8 V 300ah battery. It may be overkill, but we like to boondock with solar for up to a week sometimes. We would like to upgrade our converter and it sounds like the WF-8735-AD doesnt work as well. The PD4045KA sounds like a better replacement, but at a higher amperage. I can deal with making the opening larger. Im not electrically savvy, but it sounds like I would need to increase the wire gauge to match the upgraded amperage of converter. Is that correct? Thanks.

Hey Mason, yes the Progressive Dynamics 4000 Series Mini RV Converter w/ Charge Wizard and AC/DC Distribution Panel # PD4045KA that you referenced can work for you but like you mentioned you do need to make sure your current wiring can handle the higher amperage of this compared to what you had before. Your best option would probably be to have an electrician come out and check out the wiring situation and see what he would recommend.

Hello Mason, I installed the PD4045KA mini with my Lead Acid batteries and used a 30amp main fuse in it! I replaced the old unit on my Toyota Sunrader. Watch the YouTube videos online and you will see it's a straightforward install. Be sure to add a ground wire from your chassis using a busbar to accommodate your different circuits that need grounding. Again, watch the Youtube videos online and install one circuit at a time. Remember to sit your unit to Lithium LI first and install the main amperage to your coach's needs! It's a great little mini that works great! Good Luck!
