How To Wire In The Progressive Dynamics Power Center Without A Battery

Updated 08/25/2025 | Published 09/10/2022

Question:

I am wiring the 12V DC side of the panel. There are no batteries in this camper and the camper only uses shore power. When wiring the 12V DC side I have attached the red/positive wires running to the lights, water pump, etc. to the numbered wires coming out the back of the unit. Where do the black wires returning from the appliances get wired to? Do they need to go to a bus bar? If so, where do I wire the bus bar into this converter unit? Or do I just wire the black and red to the same wire protruding from the back of the unit? Greatly appreciate your insight.

Since you aren't using a battery for you installation you'll leave the jumper in place that connects the fuse board to the Battery POS terminal and run a ground wire from the Battery GND terminal to the chassis of your trailer. You'll also need to install a separate bus bar for the DC appliances to ground to, which will also need to be grounded to the chassis.

I've seen bus bars like this usually just mounted to the floor in the cabinet behind the power center # PD4045KA so that it's easily accessible when wiring in appliances to the power center.

System has a battery, and I'm adding a battery over discharge protection module (ODPM), I need to separate the charge wire from the panel and the battery to panel power wire. Charge wire will go direct to the battery, and the output wire from ODPM to the panel. Which wire supplies the panel in DC battery mode, and which wire is charging the battery when AC is connected? The jumper is already removed on the original install.

@DavidR In this case David, you'll want to hook the wires from the Converter output directly to your battery. As you can see in the pic above, the Converter Pos/Black (+) and Converter Grnd/White(-) will go straight to the battery. This allows the converter to charge it. Then the battery can go to the ODPM, then from there, it connects to the Battery Gnd/White (-) and Battery POS/black (+). Let me know if you need any more help!
