Does The Furrion Chill HE FR86PR Require 12v Power To Operate?

does this unit reqiure a 12 volt power source at the unit? Im looking for 2 15k units that only require 110 power only.

Hey Dale, thanks for reaching out. The Furrion Chill HE Replacement RV Air Conditioner # FR86PR is a 110v unit, but it still requires 12v for the unit to function.
The rooftop unit itself runs on 115–120V AC power, so from a cooling standpoint it’s exactly what you’re looking for . But here’s the catch, it’s not a standalone unit. It requires a ceiling assembly and thermostat/control system, and those controls are powered by your RV’s 12V system. So even though the compressor is 110V, you still need 12V present for the unit to function.
If your goal is true “110V only, no 12V at all”, that’s where RV rooftop units get tricky. Almost all modern RV AC systems (Furrion, Dometic, Coleman, GE, etc.) rely on 12V for controls, even if the cooling side is 120V. So realistically, you’re not going to find a typical RV rooftop unit that is completely 110-only with zero 12V involvement. You can absolutely run two 15K units on shore power or generator, but you’ll still need a basic 12V system in the RV for them to operate.

I purchased mine about a year ago. It cools ok but every other day or so it trips the breaker. I replaced the breaker with a new one. No difference. It's the only thing on that breaker. The original unit never did that. I call about this problem but they never got back to me.

I can not recommend the Furrion units. i installed two in late 2024. i replaced 2 Dometic Penguin units. the units were 20 years old and having some issues. had some difficulty crossing over the wiring. the most disappointing part of the Furrion is poor performance over 105 degrees. i live in phoenix and travel.The southwest a lot.So it's been very disappointing. also, the temperature sensor being located in the unit, not in the thermostat on the wall that makes temperatures very inconsistent. if you use the automatic fan feature, if one unit goes off, the cool air from the other will keep the first unit cool.So it won't turn back.. the back zone domatic had a remote sensor so the temperature inside the unit would not affect it. the remote cannot be wired into the Furrion. Only advantage Furrion has is slightly longer amp draw.

No, they require 110 - 120 AC Volt electricity to run the compressor, a control board is required for 12 DC volts to control the thermostat. I have been very satisfied with the performance of the two I have for my Palomino Columbus 5th wheel. I installed them myself two years ago and they are working fine, quitter then my previous A/Cs that were Colman.
