What is Advantage of Using Equalizers with Trailer Suspension

Updated 04/14/2026 | Published 04/09/2026

Question:

Good afternoon, I have a triple axle trailer that will be towing a 10,000lb boat, 1,100 miles twice a year. I will be swapping out all three axles for 6K brake axles, and also replacing the leaf springs. I see the spring equalizers on your website and Im wondering if I should do this option. All three axles are independently mounted to the trailer currently. Should I consider using these equalizers? Is there any benefit to changing the current setup? Thanks! Andrew

Hey Andrew, equalizers are a really great option instead of just having 3 axles independently attached to your trailer frame. Reason is that when you hit a bump or drive over a curb each axle you have now is going to take on the full weight of the trailer briefly. Equalizers allow for the weight of the trailer to spread out to all of the axles when you hit a bump instead.

So I would strongly recommend installing a triple axle hanger/equalizer kit like the part # APTT3.
