Can I Swap Out the Cam Flat Bar to One that is 2 1/2" Long Instead of the 1 7/8"?

Question:
I bought some deluxe compartment cam locks. The cam flat bar is 1 7/8” long. Can I buy this flat bar that’s 2 1/2” long?

Hello Dave,
Great question, and I definitely understand wanting to get the right length so the compartment closes snug without having to bend or modify anything.
At this time, we don’t have a 2-1/2" flat cam bar listed separately on etrailer for that latch. Most of these thumb latches, including the Deluxe Compartment Door Thumb Latch # 37200115, are designed to work with universal cam bars, so different lengths can be swapped in as long as the mounting hole and thickness match.
If your current 1-7/8" cam isn’t quite catching, moving up to a 2-1/2" can work, but you’ll want to make sure it doesn’t go too far past the frame or it won’t tighten down properly. In some cases, an offset cam can give you a better fit than just going longer.
Also, which compartment are you working on, outdoor shower, TV bay, or a storage compartment?
