I have a 2012 silverado1500 that did not come with factory tow package I have already sourced a hitch. will this plug into somewhere under the bumper without splicing so I can tow with my truck?

Hi Ronny, great question, and I completely understand wanting to avoid cutting into factory wiring if you don’t have to.
On your 2012 Silverado 1500, even without the factory tow package, many trucks still came with a round US Car style connector tucked up under the rear bumper near the spare tire. If your truck has that plug, then a socket like part # C36GJ will plug right in and give you both a 7-way and 4-way connection with no splicing needed, just a clean twist-in install.
If you don’t see that connector that is in the photo, then your truck likely has a bundle of wires instead, and in that case you would need to use a universal 7-way like part # TS39RR and splice it in. I know that’s what you’re trying to avoid, so it’s definitely worth taking a quick look under the truck first to see which setup you’ve got.
Also, if you’re adding a 7-way for trailer brakes, you’ll typically need to install the appropriate fuse or relay under the hood to activate those circuits, so checking your owner’s manual for those locations is a good step.
