Will Installing A Soft Start Void My AC Units Warranty?

Question:

I have a 2020 Jayco 319Mloc. It has 2 AC units. I use 2 Predator 2000 watt generators wired together to run one AC unit. If I purchase this plug will I be able to run both with no problem. I was going to install soft start on both units, but Im afraid to void my warranty.

Hey Scott, thanks for reaching out. Generally speaking, installing a soft start will not void your Ac units warranty. Your AC warranty is protected by the by the federal Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act. This act states, in part, that unless the installation and/or the part caused a problem then the warranty cannot be voided. So as long as the soft start is properly installed, you'll be good to go.

We have not had any customers report that a manufacturer wanted to void their air conditioner warranty due to an installation of a soft start.

That being said, most RV AC units have a 1- or 2-year warranty so if yours are from 2020, you are likely past the warranty window anyways.

What brand are your AC units?
