Does Automatic Transfer Switch Have Neutral-to-Ground Bond For Floating Neutral Inverter

Updated 03/15/2026 | Published 03/11/2026

Question:

Hi - I have an inverter with a floating neutral. I want to use and Automatic Transfer switch for Shore vs Inverter power. The ATS would need to bond the neutral-ground connection on the inverter side. Do any of the ATSs you carry do this? How about also coming with extra wiring to set up a converter by-pass? second in priority. Hope my word choice is accurate on this. Thanks

Hi Jeff! An automatic transfer switch like # 34264403 can definitely handle shore power vs inverter power and allow a converter/charger bypass. The # 342GPTS is essentially the same thing and comes with quick connect cables to make installation easier.

Where things get tricky is the neutral-to-ground bond. I’m not aware of an RV transfer switch that creates that bond for a floating-neutral inverter. That piece is typically handled by the inverter itself rather than the transfer switch. In most RV systems, the transfer switch simply swaps power sources. The neutral-ground bond needs to happen at the power source itself (shore pedestal, generator, or inside an inverter with an internal bonding relay).

Hi Jeff, I installed this same switch on my RV 15 months ago when I installed solar panels, a battery bank, and inverter on our tow-behind camper. It works flawlessly. When it's been running off shore power and the plug gets pulled, the transfer to the inverter is imperceptible. And when I've been running off the inverter and decide I want to fire up the generator to charge the batteries (using the shore power plug in the RV), The switch waits at least 30 to 40 seconds (to ensure the power has stabilized) before it switches from inverter back to the shore power connection. This allows me to fire up the generator while it's plugged into the RV (normally you have to unplug everything from the generator so that there's no load on the generator when you start it). I'm very satisfied with it.

This switch works great. Only thing I did was reset the 30 second delay to instant.
