2016 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins Front Hitch Fitment and Intercooler Clearance

Updated 03/12/2026 | Published 03/08/2026

Question:

Hello, I have a 2016 RAM 2500 with the 6.7 Cummins. want to get this front hitch but also am slightly concerned with the fitment. I watched the videos available but did not necessarily see that anyone had what looks like a transmission cooler in front like my truck so I want to be sure that this hitch will fit and clear the cooler. I have attached images for you to look at, perhaps my truck is just normal like everyone else that has this truck I bought it used so not sure what is std.

Hi Rick, I’m really glad you sent the photos over because that was the right move before ordering. I can see why you were concerned about clearance with that cooler sitting up front.

After looking into it more closely, the EcoHitch part # 306-X7900 is not a fit for the 6.7L Cummins. That hitch is designed around the gas and 6.5L diesel configurations, and the 6.7L trucks have a different intercooler and front end layout that interferes with that mounting position. Based on what I can see in your third photo, there would not be enough room for the EcoHitch to install properly or maintain the airflow you want to keep.

The good news is you do have a solid option. The Curt front mount hitch part # C31015 is confirmed to fit the 2016 Ram 2500 with the 6.7L Cummins. It installs underneath the bumper rather than up behind the grille, so it avoids the intercooler area and keeps everything clear.

What are you planning to use the front receiver for first, your winch plate, a bike rack, or launching a boat?

@RickS That sounds like a great plan. The Curt part # C31015 will be a solid choice for carrying bikes. What bike rack do you have?

Hi Rick, I have the eco hitch on my 2013 ram 3500. The fit is perfect. I used it for carrying a cargo carrier that held 600lbs of fuel, tools, and a 4500 generator to and from Alaska. We have the same trans cooler and I have a larger 4 row intercooler because my truck is built out to 800whp. I hope this helps!

Hi Rick. I got mine to carry my motorcycle in front of my 2018 truck. I had no issues with fitting in front of the intercooler. Super strong hitch and very tidy when not in use.

@PaulM Hi Paul, thank you for that info! According to EcoHitch the hitch does not fit the 6.7L diesel but does fit the 6.5L. Can you confirm which configuration you have?

My truck was a 6.7 Cummings Ram 2500.

The Curt front mount hitch fit my 2017 Ram with the 6.7 Cummins perfectly, clearing the regular radiator and extra cooler below it. Install was tight at times but having the right tools and an extra set of hands made it better.
