Can a 2nd Receiver Be Added to the Blue Ox Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter BLU48CR?

Updated 03/02/2026 | Published 02/26/2026

Question:

Can a second receiver be installed on the riser rail so you can have your tow bar at say the 4inch level and then have a bike rack at the 8inch level? I have looked at the Gen-Y /raise that have multiple 2inch openings, just wondering if this one could be setup the same way.

You sure can Randy! You can install the 2-1/2" Add-On Receiver item # BLU44TR to the Blue Ox Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter item # BLU48CR. This will give you an additional slot for your bike rack, however it's going to be an identical 2-1/2" receiver. You'll also need to use the Blue Ox Hitch Reducer Sleeve item # BX88187 for your bike rack.

I checked with Blue Ox and their 2" Add-On Receiver item # BLU94TR only works on the 2" Blue Ox Adjustable Drop Hitch item # BLU28XR and item # BLU28XR. Which is not going to work with your new Blue Ox Avail Tow Bar item # BLU78QV.

What kind of vehicle are you going to be flat towing and do you need any recommendation on parts?

I have the 2 inch version of Blue Ox drop hitch and use an additional 2 in add on receiver for the bike rack. For my configuration, I actually put the Blue Ox BLU28XR so that it “rises” instead of “drops” and have the add on receiver BLU94TR at the top position of the “rise” for the bike rack. I then have a Thule rack that has an additional rise of about 3-4 more inches so that there is no interference between the roadmaster towbar (when not in use and “folded up” with the bag cover) and the bike rack. In other words, I can disengage my roadmaster tow bar from my ford bronco and NOT have to take the bike rack off from the BLU28XR drop hitch. Even with the bike rack in use with two e-bikes and towing a ford bronco, I don’t exceed the tongue load rating nor the 6000 lb rating of my roadmaster towbar. And, while close on a tight tight turn, there is no interference between the bike wheels and the front of the ford bronco.
