Recommended Heavy Duty Shackle Kit For 2004 Raptor Triple Axle Camper

Updated 02/23/2026 | Published 02/15/2026

Question:

Hello, I have a 2004 Raptor 5th wheel triple axel toy hauler. Ive worn out and replaced about three shackles and now Im looking to upgrade all the shackles. Im trying to figure what size shackles to order. Are they measured overall the length of the strap or center to center bolt holes? It appears what I have is 3-1/2inch top to bottom and 2-1/4inch center to center for the holes. The photos are numbered 1 through 4, front to back. Thank You for your help. Bob

Hey Bob,

Shackle Straps are measured center to center, so for your 2004 Raptor Triple Axle you'll want an upgrade kit with 2-1/4" Shackles.

I'd go with the MORryde # MR86ZR. These include super beefy 1/2" thick shackle straps which are not going to wear out like the flimsy stock ones. These will also require you to use the included wet bolts and bronze bushings, so you'll have to remove your worn out nylon bushings in you equalizers and leaf springs. Make sure you check out the openings for the bushings in your springs and equalizers, and if they're ovaled out, replace them or else you'll prematurely wear out the new bushings.

You do need to grease these every 3-6 months depending on how often you're towing, I personally install the bolts where the grease zerk is point underneath the trailer, that way you can crawl under there and grease em without having to take tires off. You can use the same grease you repack your bearings with to grease em, I typically use # L11390 for this.

How often are you towing your camper?

I have a 2011 Dutchman Voltage. My shackle straps wore out and I replaced all of them with the heavy duty straps and also the wet grease able bolts all from Etrailer. They are measured center to center. I also replaced the equalizers with MORryde that I also ordered from etrailer. My spring eyelets were not worn out oblonged so I just replaced with new bushings from kit and new wet bolts. I did not replace the hangers on camper frame or springs but everything else I replaced with new. I have pictures of my project I can share if you would like

Here is the route that we went with our triple axle trailer: PART # MR86ZR - 2-1/4" Shackle Strap Kit. x 1. MR59ZR - MORryde Equalizers for 33" wheel base. x 1. K71-385-00 - Spring Over/Under Conversion (so the trailer was taller and it brought the front of the trailer down so that it was level while driving down the road). x 3. SP-218275 - Leaf springs. x 6. This made such a huge difference with how the trailer traveled down the road and how it sounded when going over obstacles when driving slow. Our trailer would squeek and pop when backing into our driveway. Now it is silent and so smooth. I also took the opportunity to paint the frame and axle housing with Eastwood rust encapsulator spray paint. It came out really nice. I would add photos to this response if I knew how.
