Hello Morgan,
Great question!
The etrailer Over-The-Cab Truck Ladder Rack - Steel - 1,000 lbs # e78FV is going to be a great fit for your 2026 Ram 2500 whether it has a 6 1/2' bed (without Rambox) or an 8' bed.
With the etrailer Over-The-Cab Truck Ladder Rack - Steel - 1,000 lbs # e78FV, the front load bar that sits over the cab is not designed to be moved once the rack is installed. It’s a fixed over-the-cab design, meaning it mounts to your truck’s bed rails and extends forward over the cab to give you extra support for longer items.
Because of that design, it can’t be repositioned to sit above the bed instead of above the cab. The over-the-cab bar is meant to stay in that forward position to properly support longer loads like ladders, lumber, or pipe and help keep them from dipping down toward your roof.
While it may look like certain components could be unbolted or modified, doing so would void the warranty and could potentially create structural issues or affect the rack’s load capacity. It’s really best to use it as designed to make sure everything stays secure and safe.
The good news is a 6 foot ladder will fit on the rack as is. If you need some straps, check out the ProGrip Cam Buckle Tie-Down Straps - S-Hooks and Snap Hooks - 1-1/4" x 8' - 400 lbs - Qty 2 # 317-412020.
As someone who used to do quite a bit of tile work, I’m curious, what kind of work do you do? I was leaving a job once and we didn’t have a ladder rack. My coworker tossed the ladder in the bed and I told him, “You should strap that down.” He didn’t, and it flew out of the bed on the highway. Thank goodness it didn’t hit anyone or cause an accident. Always, safety first =)
