How To Make Keystone Travel Trailer Steps Have Better Grip In Rain And Protect The Step?

Updated 02/12/2026 | Published 02/11/2026

Question:

Our aluminum steps on keystone camper get slick when wet and our dog refuses to use them since he fell one time on it. Do these actually improve traction? I know the doorway width is around 24" or so.

Hello Mike.

Yes, traction is one of the biggest upgrades here. Bare aluminum SolidSteps only have shallow grooves and are very click if they don't have tread tape on them. The PopStep covers add a textured PVC surface across the full width of the tread, which makes it easier on paws than raw aluminum. This also gives noticeably better grip in:
-Rain
-Morning dew
-Muddy conditions
-Frost

I assume your Keystone travel trailer has Lippert OEM steps. Assuming that's true, if you have 24 inch wide steps, check out # PS87UR for 3-step or # PS27UR for 2-step configurations.
If your steps measure 20 inches wide, then go with # PS39UR for 3-step or # PS99UR for 2-step.
If you have a different brand like MORryde or Kwikee or different width steps, let me know as they will be a different fit all together!

What kind of dog do you have?

Just measured and they’re 23-1/2". It’s a 3-step Lippert setup.

@Mike Nice - that’s considered the 24" size. With a 3-step Lippert SolidStep measuring 23-1/2", you’ll want # PS87UR. That’ll give your pup full tread coverage and better grip across the entire step, not just the front edge. What kind of dog are we helping out here?
