Updated 02/12/2026 | Published 02/09/2026

Question:

I have a 2020 Grand Design Momentum 399th with triple axles that I am looking at upgrading to disc brakes. The axles are Dexter 7658660. What is the best kit for quality and install. Also will the system work with the factory built in brake control on my 2016 Chevy Silverado 3500hd?

Hey Kurt, thanks for reaching out. We do have a disc brake conversion kit that will work great for your 2020 Grand Design Momentum 399th with triple Dexter 7658660 axles. For that I recommend the following:

- DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Triple Axle Trailers - 9/16" Studs - 8 on 6-1/2 - 7K # DE26AR

This is a true bolt-on, full conversion kit, so you get everything in one go: rotors, calipers, brackets, pads, brake lines, fittings, and the electric-over-hydraulic actuator. DeeMaxx has a solid reputation for fit and durability on heavy toy haulers like yours. Definitely a solid option as far as durability and ease of install.

That said, your truck needs to have an EOH compatible brake controller, and typically the factory controller in a 2016 Silverado would not have an EOH mode. For that reason, I do recommend replacing the factory controller with one that is EOH compatible like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED26CR.

Will you be installing this yourself? Or taking it to a shop?

Thank you for your response. Is there any system out there that will work with my factory dash installed brake controller?

@KurtS No. Typically those Chevy factory controllers from that year only work with electric brakes and will not work with any EOH actuator regardless of brand.

Thank you, Jesse. In my research, I found that the Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Adapter Module (HBA-CAM) is supposed to correct the signal going to my truck’s factory brake controller and eliminate the need for adding a second, aftermarket controller. Is that not the case? Here is one of the bits of research I have done, please let me know if I am missing something here. Yes — your 2016 Chevy Silverado 3500HD is one of the model years the Hydrastar HBA-CAM was specifically designed to work with. Here’s the confirmation straight from the manufacturer info: ? Compatibility The Hydrastar HBA-CAM is intended to allow GM/Chevy factory-integrated brake controllers from model year 2007 through current to properly communicate with Hydrastar electric-over-hydraulic actuators. [etrailer.com] Since your truck is a 2016, it falls squarely inside that supported range. ? What this means for you With your 2016 Silverado 3500HD: You do NOT need to add a second aftermarket brake controller. The factory in-dash controller will work correctly once the HBA-CAM is installed. The module will prevent false error codes and stop the actuator “clicking” caused by the truck’s verification pulses. [carlislemo...ion.com.au] ?? One Important Note While the HBA-CAM makes the factory controller compatible, it does not change braking performance—it simply ensures proper communication. The factory controller will still behave like a factory controller. But for most users towing with a GM 3500HD, the performance is fully adequate once the adapter is installed. [easternmarine.com]

@KurtS Hey Kurt, yes the # HBA-CAM is an option. I will be honest though, that adapter is not something I have complete faith in. It can and does work a majority of the time but I have seen many cases where it just doesn't. its definitely worth a shot if you don't want to get rid of the factory controller. An aftermarket controller is guaranteed to work without the need for adapters so that is typically my go-to recommendation.
