Hi I have this water heater and I was wondering if you had to keep the controller on for it to stay hot Thanks Derek

Hey Derek.
If the controller is set to off the main heater will still be on but only for freeze protection. The GE Profile part # GE65FR will not keep any water hot while the controller is off. Once you turn it back on you will be able to get hot water at the temperature you set it at.
If you ever want the whole unit to be turned off, you will need to switch the button that is physically on the hot water heater to off.
What type of camping set up are you using this water heater in?
