Good morning, I want to replace my oem gooseneck with a BandW gooseneck. How do I remove the oem gooseneck hitch. Can’t find if I have to remove bed. Thanks, Sean

Hello Sean, thanks for reaching out. You should not have to remove the bed to remove the OEM gooseneck hitch on your truck. On most factory OEM gooseneck systems (Ford, Ram, GM), the hitch is mounted to a frame-mounted crossmember system under the bed, not welded in. The typical removal process is all done from under the truck, with access through the wheel wells and the center hole in the bed.

The same will go for installing the B&W gooseneck. You don't need to take the bed off.

What is the year, make and model of your truck? Let me know and I can make sure you get the right gooseneck hitch.

Yes on the expert reply - you should not have to remove your bed for the removal of oem or the instillation of the B&W hitch. The B&W was extremely easy to install from underside and is a fantastic hitch - researched quite a few before choosing the B&W very happy that is what I went with good luck to you !

@Chuck Hey Chuck, thanks for sharing! Glad to hear you are happy with your B&W gooseneck. And thanks for confirming I was correct about not removing the bed. Now I know you've got my back! lol

When I replaced my hitch I did not have to remove the bed but in order to get enough clearance to get the hitch out I did have to take my bed bolts out and use a floor jack to lift up one side of the bed a little and take the exhaust off of the of the hangers to get it to move out of the way. Not horrible but will definitely need two people.

@Hayden Thanks for sharing, Hayden. It seems like there is always a roadblock or two on these kinds of projects, but I'm glad to hear you got it done! Nice work!

When you do remove the old hitch there are locating pins into the frame from the top. You have to cut those pins of with a sawzall or you’ll never get it out and they are tough to see under there.
