Question:
I have aDemco setup in my Diesel Pusher Tiffin Phaetor and my Chevy Equinox. Braking system is AirforceOne, Have 7-pin on RV and six pin on Toad. Does hace the diodes installed for brake lights. I plan to get a new RV this year, moving to a gas motor jome, something like Entegra or Jayco Class C So seems striaght forward that I simply need to use the SM99231 Towed Car Conversion Kit - Demco Air Force One to Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System Install looks straight forward, saw the video. Questions. My future rig will come with 7-pin, will that come wored standard just like ny tiffin is now? That is no changes to the wiring on the rig side? AND. If I conver to the Stay-in-Play now, will the braking work with the tiffin diesel Pusher? I presume activation is based on brake light signal? Like to convert before changing rigs, and be ready to change rigs when the tme comes.

Hey David, yes the Towed Car Conversion Kit - Demco Air Force One to Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System # SM99231 is what you are looking for. It will make the necessary conversion you are wanting to and it will still work in a tow vehicle that has air brakes as well. The only issue is that if you use the exhaust brake and it lights up your stop lights it will activate the brakes of the towed vehicle which will then make them activate harder and drag which will then burn them up. So if you can avoid the exhaust brake on long downhills you'll be fine.

David, I too went from a Tiffin 40' Allegro Bus to a Class C. This conversion kit worked perfectly for me and easily done.

I converted from Air Force 1 to Stay-n-play. It was relatively easy. Just takes time to splice all the various wires. The only thing I didn't notice is that the fuse at the battery is a 20 amp. When I was installing the conversion, the fuse used for the AF1 was a 10 amp. So, I kept using 10 amps which would blow and I would go through all the wiring. Finally noticed in the paperwork that it needed to be a 20 amp. Working great!

Hi David, Don't do it. I sold my diesel pusher after family members and others told me to downsize. I went to a Holiday Rambler gas RV. I have regretted the switch ever since I made it. My first trip was to the Canadian Maritimes for six weeks. The gas unit did not have an adequate suspension and is the most difficult and as far as I am concerned, most dangerous vehicle I have ever driven and I have driven long haul in semi-tractor trailers and logging trucks. The vehicle has excessive body roll, sway and porpoises. You can have all three of those at the same time. It moves excessively on a two lane road, even when a car goes by. And it is also excessively under powered. I pulled a Jeep Grand Cherokee, about 4500lbs, and the rig slowed to 20 mph on many hills. I wish I could get my diesel pusher back. In terms of the Air Force One. I would recommend it to anyone. It worked fantastically and was relatively easy to install. I switched from the Air Force One to the Demco electric braking system. I would recommend that system too. I had no trouble making the conversion. It was straight forward. I think it took me about two hours, start to finish. I was able to use many of the components from the Air Force One system. I think the most difficult part was finding someplace to mount the new box under the hood. Once installed, I didnt notice much difference in operation between the Demco electric and the straight air braking system. I had to make minor adjustments on the electric system to insure it worked when I applied the coach brakes, but did not drag. I hope this helps your decision.

I'm towing using a smaller class C and didn't have to modify anything on the RV side after I bought the Fiat with the Air Force 1 and converted it to the Stay-in-Play. All the modifications were on the toad side. I was advised to keep the AF1 should I ever move up to a rig with air brakes. And don't forget to up your fuse size - the Stay-in-Play draws more current than the AF1.
