Hey Darin! Do you have any kind of wiring on your 2008 Ford F-150? If you already have a 4-way you can upgrade it to a 7-way using the # ETBC7 you were looking at. If you don't have a 4-way you will also need the # C58044.
Plug and play is only available if you have the factory wiring connection at the rear. You would also have a brake controller port up under the dash if you had the wiring for the factory 7-way. This would allow you to use a connector like # C36GJ and then a brake controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED96CR with a custom wiring harness.
If you're installing the # ETBC7 you will need the Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR instead since it has a universal splice-in wiring harness. The Liberty is my recommendation for a brake controller. It is simple, reliable, and doesn't take up space in the cab. The main unit mounts behind the dash so only the control knob is visible, just like an OEM controller.
The P3 # 90195 you looked at is another good option but right now the parent company is bankrupt, and they're for sale, so if you had an issue I'm not sure what support would look like.
What will you be towing with your F-150?

Hey Darin, how did things go adding the 7-way wiring and brake controller to your F-150? Did the ETBC7 kit and Tow-Pro Liberty setup work out for you? Your update could make it easier for others upgrading their truck wiring.
