Looking For An Anti-Rattle Clamp For My 2-1/2" Hitch With A Reducer Used

Updated 01/20/2026 | Published 01/15/2026

Question:

I have a Class V hitch on my 2017 F250 4wd diesel lariat and it has a 2 1/2inch receiver. I use a reducer from 2 1/2 foot to 2inch for my weight distribution. My question is will this work with that setup?

Hey Joe,

The reducer that you are using, is it just the sleeve style that slides into your 2-1/2" hitch or do you have a reducer that extends out past the receiver? If you are just using the sleeve style then the Trimax # TMX66SR anti-rattle clamp is going to work well for your setup. If you are using a reducer that extends out you will want to go with the # TMX46SR for a 2" hitch.

What are you towing with that Ford?

I tow a keystone 293ubh travel trailer. My reducer is a small one that does not extend past the receiver opening. I am also looking at getting an extended shank the one that is 18” long so I can put my tailgate down when my trailer is attached.

@Joe If you switch to the extended shank, if it is a 2" shank you will want to go with the clamp for 2".

I have an F350 with the 2 and 1/2 inch receiver. I cannot speak to the reducer question specifically but when I bought this the picture showed a hex nut instead of a wing nut. I had to throw the wing nuts away (no way to get them tight enough) and go buy SS hex nuts. I put 2 on each side, one for a lock nut after getting the first nut really tight. After that fix, this clamp has worked well.

@BrianH I bought the 2.5 inch one also. Do not like the wing nuts. I will take the info above and replace with stainless steel nuts. As for the functionality, it works really nice fits my F250 class five hitch perfectly and I have towed 6000 miles through the mountains with it with no issues. But the nuts are a real pain to get tight and I found myself having to constantly check. Solid piece of hardware.

this work well if you can keep it tight i have a 2015 F250 using a reducer as well and i have to check it occasionally because it will slip off the receiver and get loose. The lip in the anti rattle isn't quite tall enough to lock onto the backside of the ring of the receiver good
