Question:

Hey Experts! Have a 2012 F-150 Im trying to get set up to pull a small-ish utility trailer in the coming months. I do have a hitch but Im not sure what else I need. No brakes on the trailer most likely but who knows maybe down the line. Thanks for your help. Great site!

Hey Brad! The parts you're going to need to pull that trailer are a ball mount, a ball, and a wiring harness.
For the Ford F-250 Super Duty, a great option is the etrailer Adjustable 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 6" Rise, 6" Drop - 10K, part # e66PR. I've attached a link to our help article that walks you through the measurements needed to pick the right ball mount.

For wiring, if you have the tow package you won't need any additional wiring. You'll have the 4-flat and 7-way connections.

If you don't have the tow package, you'll need the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11140755 with the # ETBC7 adapter for a 7-way connection.

When you pull a trailer with brakes, you'll need a brake controller too. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # TK25UR is very highly-rated. Install is easy with a custom harness included to plug right into your vehicle.

What are you hauling with the trailer?
