Question:

Hi Im looking for a Dexter 6000lb axle. Hub face is 86.5 and spring center is 68.5. I believe the part number on the sticker on the back of the axle is Dex 7647325. Does etrailer have that item.

Hey David. The Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles item # 8327826, you were looking at, is our closest option. It's got the 6,000 lbs capacity and the 86-1/2" hub face dimension, however the spring seats are mounted at 71-1/2".

The Dexter item # 8327826 is a 3" diameter axle so if you're unable to find one with spring seats at 68-1/2", you can install two of the Spring Seat for Typical 5,200-lb to 7,200-lb, Round Trailer Axles with 3" Diameter item # TRSS300.

Did you break an axle and what kind of trailer do you have?

Hi Jerred I have a Grand Design Reflection 337RLS. My back axle has flattened out or the right hand side spindle is slightly bent. It's wearing out the inside of my rear tires prematurely.

@DavidO That's not good. Definitely time for a new axle.

@DavidO I had the exact same problem with my 303RLS Grand Design. Used the above axles to replace but with new spring mounts to weld on top of axle with correct spacing. Be advised your existing hubs and bearings may not work with nee axle. On mine outboard bearing on new axle is a different size than original. My brother did his as well but used the E-Trailer brand. Bearings were the same as original. Hope this helps. You're not in that boat alone. Seems to be a common problem with our size of trailers.

If I can't find one with the proper spring seat I would definitely be interested. Thank you very much for the help.

@DavidO I believe I purchased the same axle you are looking at. I had replaced one with the original weight load (5200 lbs). On my 2014 Keystone Cougar 337fls but the spring mounts on mine where narrower and mine is under hung on the springs. I bought 3” spring mounts and had a welder cut the others off and added the new ones. I’ve since changed both axles to 6,000 lbs and had to change the spring mounts again. I wasn’t happy with the 10,400 lbs load limit and went to a true 12,000 lbs limit. I replaced the springs with 3,000 lbs, 6 leaves and a wet bolt kit and added 2 X-Factor brackets. Something I’m going to suggest that others will complain about is if you can find a local shop is having it checked for alignment. I found a shop in Tucson, Arizona and since I head south for the winter it was convenient. Even with all the new components they still needed to remove the axle for the alignment. And as far as the EZ-Lube feature I don’t use it. I would rather remove the hubs and bearings for inspection and to repack them. I purchased the fifth wheel used and when I pulled the drums I had found that grease had been forced past the seal and had contaminated the brake shoes. That being said I also own a pontoon boat and that trailer doesn’t have brakes so I use the EZ-Lube feature between the removal and inspection.
