What is the Total Length of the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs With a 60" Hub Face

Updated 12/10/2025 | Published 12/08/2025

Question:

What is the TOTAL length of the e84YR Axle? I am building a lightweight aluminum utility trailer to replace my old trailer which was built on a motorcycle trailer. I am considering building a 4x6 trailer. The trailer must fit inside of my existing trailer shed. That is the reason for asking for the total length. I realize my standard 4.80-12 inch tires may add to the total width. Thank you.

Hey, Robert.

I took a walk out to our warehouse to check the total length of our etrailer axle, part #e84YR, for you. The axle itself measures 65" long. Once you install the hub and grease cap, that will add to the overall length. To play it safe, it’s reasonable to assume an additional 4" total.

So you’re looking at a total length of about 69". If the inside of your trailer is only 6' wide, you wouldn’t have much wiggle room at all.

I attached a photo of a fellow customer that installed the axle and used 175/80-13 tires. They are wider tires than your 4.80-12 tires that you wan to use but thought it would still be a good visual to see.

Thank you so much, Gwendolyn! It is going to be a tight squeeze with that axle. I will check to see how much room I have if any. In the meantime I will be ordering two 4.80-12 high speed tires to replace the ones on my present trailer.

@RobertE Happy to help out! I'd love to hear an update on how your build goes.
