Question:
I just bought a 2025 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4-door. The manual says it can tow 5,000 lbs. max. But, the factory hitch is listed as only a Class II hitch which is capped at 3,500 lbs. Can you recommend a hitch for me? I want the most heavy duty, highest rated bolt-on hitch you can sell me for my Jeep. Which one is the one?

Hi Shawn!
I am surprised they do not include a more heavy duty hitch on the 2025 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4-door. I would have thought it would at least be a little closer to the vehicle's capacities, but car companies have done strange things for quite some time now.
Anyway, I recommend going with the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e98856. This will get you to that 5,000 pound towing capacity (and a 500 pound tongue weight capacity) and the matte finish helps it blend in better than the gloss finish most other hitches use. The receiver tube is also longer than other hitches, which helps things sit out a little further to clear the spare tire on the back. Plus it's also American made. I would say it is by far the best choice! ^___^
What are you planning on towing with your Jeep?

Thank you! I believe how this came to be is that for many years the 4-door Jeep Wrangler was capped at 3,500 lbs. towing (and most still are), and the hitch Jeep installed was always a Class II hitch to match. Starting in 2024, Jeep installed a new full floating rear axle in Rubicon trim level Wranglers only, and increased the towing capacity to 5,000 lbs. officially on those models. However, they kept using the same Class II hitches from whoever their supplier is. Hence, those of us who actually plan to use that new towing ability are finding it necessary to upgrade the hitch. I will definitely add your recommendation to my Christmas wish list. I plan to tow a small camper next year when spring arrives.
