What Hubs Can I Use On an Older Trailer?

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 10/29/2025

Question:

Hello, Im looking for Trailer Hubs Assembly but my trailer is very old and the spindles are straight and dimensions are both 1 3/8 inner and outer. Do you have Wheel Hubs that would fit this type of spindle ? Thanks in advance. Regards, Jean

Thanks for your question, Jean.

How old is your trailer? If it's an original axle and from the early 2000's or older it could have a short spindle. Short spindles would need hubs that are about 3-1/2" long. You can measure this by measuring the length of the hub bore from end to end. Newer, or also called modern spindles, will be closer to 4" or a tad longer. I'd also need to know what your bolt pattern to see if we have something that would also fit your existing wheels.

Bearing # L68149 is the same size as the 1-3/8" that you gave me and are used as both the inner and outer bearings for hub/drum part # DX53WR. That has a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern with a 10" drum.

I included two help articles, one is a printable template to check your bolt pattern. If you don't have a way to print the second article will help you determine your bolt pattern without using the template.

Hello Gwendolyn, Thank you for your quick and very thorough reply. The hub is 5’’ long from the backing plate to the start of the threads, and the two bearings are 1 3/8’’ inner and outer, which is proving to be practically impossible to find. After some research with scrap dealers, I was told that my trailer is most likely equipped with a car axle from the 80s. However, I can't find hubs that fit, so I'm considering replacing the entire axle and I would like to install 12’’ tires on rims with a 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. Thanks. Best Regards, Jean
