Is Pink Prime Guard Antifreeze Safe To Leave In The Lines All Winter Without Draining Til Spring?

Question:

Is the pink Prime Guard safe to leave in the lines all winter without draining before spring?

Yes, Scott, that’s exactly what it’s made for. All three Prime Guard formulas are non-toxic and won’t damage plumbing if left in place for the off-season. Just remember to flush with fresh water before first use.

That said, I strongly recommend going with the glycerin-free options like -50F # PG36ZR and -100F # PG96ZR since they actually help lubricate seals, making them last longer than using budget-friendly ethanol-based antifreeze like -50F # PG56ZR.

Do you sanitize with bleach or something else after winter when spring rolls around?

usually just flush everything with fresh water in spring, but I’ve never actually sanitized it. Is that something I should be doing every year too?

@Scott Yes, it’s a good idea to sanitize at least once a year, especially after using any type of antifreeze. Even though the Prime Guard formulas are all non-toxic, bacteria can still grow in damp spots over the winter. A premixed cleaner like Camco’s Spring Fresh # CAM40207 will do the trick. Just fill your system, let it sit a few hours, and flush it clean. You’ll start the season with fresh, safe water and keep your lines smelling neutral.
