Question:
Will this work with a RV with Air Brakes also? SM99251
asked by: Julian H
Expert Reply:
Hey Julian, technically yes the Demco DUO part # SM99251 will work with an RV that has air brakes but the reason it's not recommended is because of exhaust brakes that are in MHs that have air brakes. By law when you use an exhaust brake the brake lights of the motorhome have to come on which would activate the DUO and what ends up happening is that the brakes on the towed vehicle end up getting fried.
We have a similar option made for tow vehicles with air brakes with the Demco Air Force One part # DM26VR. This ties into the motorhome's air brake system and applies the towed vehicle brakes in a proportional manner. Would that be something you'd be interested in?
