Seasoning a Greystone Grill With an Enamel Coating

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 10/11/2025

Question:

This particular Greystone grill has a porcelain top. you do not need to season a ceramic grill top in the same way you would season cast iron. However, some manufacturers recommend an initial burn-in to remove residue or drive out moisture, and regular cleaning is crucial for maintenance. Both of your videos from E trailer telling people to season the top on a ceramic grill is wrong.

Hey Michael! Happy to help clear some things up.

The Greystone grill has an enamel coating, sometimes referred to as porcelain enamel. That name can be a tad misleading, since it’s called that mainly because of the glossy, glass-like finish created by the glass powder used in the coating, rather than it being actual porcelain or ceramic.

You’re absolutely right that this particular grill, part # WAY34FR, doesn’t need to be seasoned. The manufacturer’s instructions are more general and apply to all of their 17" grills, regardless of the coating, so they don’t specify that detail for this model. I’ve gone ahead and requested that the information be updated, at least on our website, to make that clearer.

Hey Michael, did the updated info about the Greystone grill’s enamel top clear things up for you? Knowing how it’s actually coated should make maintenance a lot simpler. Your feedback could really help others avoid the same confusion.
