Can Blue Ox SwayPro WD Hitch Be Upgraded To Heavier Spring Bars?

Updated 09/30/2025 | Published 09/10/2025

Question:

I have an older style BXW0750 Blue Ox Hitch with the built-in retaining pin and I need to upgrade the spring bars to 1000lbs as my Tongue weight is 950. Do these replacement bars work with the old style head or just the new head with the through pin retainer?

Hello Christopher, thanks for reaching out. Yes, you can use the Replacement Spring Bars # BXW4007 to upgrade the capacity of your Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Hitch # BXW0750. All of the SwayPro hitches use the same head unit, and Blue Ox actually designed this WD system with this in mind. You can upgrade/downgrade the capacity as needed by simply swapping out the bars. The head unit and frame brackets are the same.

What kind of trailer are you using this on?

Hey Christopher, did the replacement spring bars work well with your Blue Ox Hitch? I'm curious to know if it was the right fit for your setup, as it could help others looking to upgrade their hitches.

@JesseM I had to purchased then somewhere else. I reached out to Blue Ox Directly to get clarification on replacement bars, and learned they changed to just the through hole production about 6 months ago. I then called E Trailer to see if you had the older duel style in stock and the rep on the phone she did not believe so as photo only showed the through hole for the newer style. I appreciate your help and will continue to shop e trailers for future needs.
