Because your RV is likely already prepped and pre-wired for an AC unit, installation is simple. Most AC units are designed to fit an opening that measures 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". Depending on your roof setup, you may need to do minimal alterations. If the opening is larger than 14-3/8" x 14-3/8", you will need to install spacers between the sides of the unit and the opening's edges. If the opening is smaller than 14-1/8" x 14-1/8", you will need to enlarge the hole to fit the unit snugly inside the opening.
On the bottom of the AC, there's a thick, collapsible gasket with 6 noise-reducing foam pads. This provides support between the RV roof and AC and seals the opening to prevent water and outside air from leaking in. Because of this, the use of fresh sealant isn't needed. Once installed, the hard plastic cover on the AC can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning.
In order to fully complete installation, this AC needs to be paired with a 2025 or newer Advent Air air distribution box and thermostat.
Additional accessories can be purchased separately to improve the performance of your Advent Air AC unit. The start capacitor (ACMSCKIT) improves the performance of your AC by using stored energy to help start it. And the electric heat strip (ADV34QR) removes the chill on cold or frosty mornings in your RV, ensuring you stay comfortable. Please note that the heat strip will only work on Advent Air AC units.
2-Year limited warranty covers defective units when installed correctly on approved applications. The warranty does not cover units installed incorrectly. To ensure air conditioner is installed correctly, please see the questionnaire pdf below. A filled-out questionnaire is required for warranty coverage.
If you are not comfortable using a voltmeter (or removing the charge from the start capacitor), you'll want to make a service appointment with your local RV dealer to verify the installation. Print the pdfs below (warranty- questionnaire, warranty dealer information) and take them along with the RV to your local dealer. ASA does compensate dealers for warranty work as outlined in the dealer information pdf. You may be charged by the dealer for time spent investigating the installation.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a quick look at this Advent Air 13,500 BTU black RV air conditioner. Now, this is going to be a great option for you to consider if you're looking to replace, upgrade or add an air conditioner to your RV. This 13,500 BTU unit is going to be great at cooling down your medium to large travel trailers, Class C motor homes and standard fifth wheels, giving you a refreshing escape in spaces upwards of 200 to 300 square feet. If you're looking for something a little bit more than that, we do have this option available in a 15,000 BTU option.
But this does use the more energy efficient R-32 refrigerant, which is going to meet the 2025 EPA regulations. So this AC is gonna be compatible with ducted or ductless systems, but this won't be compatible with Penguin, Bugatti or Furrion. And this is just the air conditioner itself. So to fully complete the installation, you are going to need a compatible air distribution box and thermostat from Advent Air. That's gonna be 2025 or newer.
This is not going to be backwards compatible with any AC system from 2024 or earlier because of that new R-32 refrigerant. So if you don't already have an air distribution box and thermostat that's R-32 compliant, you can find those options available here at etrailer.com. You can give us a call if you need any help and we'll point you in the right direction. So this is gonna be designed for your motor homes, your travel trailers, and fifth wheels. But this has not been approved for use in school, on school buses, food trucks, or enclosed utility trailers or off-roading vehicles because typically the roofs on those types of vehicles or trailers are not built with the support needed to handle the weight of an air conditioner.
Or there might be too much flex in that roof that could potentially damage the AC unit itself while you're going down the road. So this will be a bolt-on installation, But again, this does not include any hardware. That hardware is typically associated or comes with the compatible air distribution box. So this will fit roofs from 2 1/2 inches to 5 inches thick with an opening size of 14 1/4 inches long by 14 1/4 inches wide. Lemme give you some measurements.
Looking at the overall length from end to end, about 31 3/16 inches long. The overall width, pretty close to 24 7/8 inches wide. The overall height about 12 13/16 inches tall. This unit weighs in the mid 60s, so about 65 pounds or so. Inside the unit features a six-blade fan with motor that's gonna give you sufficient airflow at about 500 cubic feet per minute. And this does feature this black hard plastic cover that's gonna do a great job of protecting those internal components from water, debris. And it can be removed. It's secured in place with Phillips head screws. So if you ever need to open this up to clean it, you can just remove those screws, remove the cover, do whatever maintenance you need to do, and then the cover will be able to be easily replaced and those screws replaced and tightened. And on down the road you go. Now underneath, I don't know if you'll be able to see. I think you'll be able to see it up here. We do have these really nice thick foam pads that are gonna give you that support and cushion between the bottom of the air conditioner and the top of your roof. And then you also have a collapsible gasket that goes over that roof opening. That's going to seal this into place. So you're not gonna need sealant. I wanted to give you a view of the wiring harness that's gonna drop through that opening in your roof. And the pan here at the base is metal. So this is going to be a a very sturdy unit overall. And there are some other components that you could pick up that are sold separately from this if you wanted to improve the performance of this unit. For instance, a start capacitor is available separately from Advent Air that is going to improve the performance of your AC by using stored energy to jumpstart it. You could also pick up an electric heat strip, which as you probably know, removes the chill on those crisp mornings. It removes the chill from the air. Of course, that heat strip is not meant as a furnace replacement. But if you get up one morning and just a little bit crispy in the morning, but you don't really need to turn your furnace on, that's where the heat strip will come in. So if you're interested in the start capacitor or the heat strip, we do have those options available here at trailer.com from Advent Air and you can find them under the related products section on this product page and add those items to your order if you so desire. So again, we have this available also with a white cover instead of this black one. And again, 13,500 BTU. And then we also have this available in 15,000 BTU as well. Have an 1999 Ford E-150 van used as an RV. I built a 30 amp box with 2-20 amp circuits several years ago. I and 3 doggies travel all over the SE for dog agility competitions. Loading and lifting a window A/C unit into the driver's side widow worked, but a major task. I cut and framed a hole in the van roof and installed the Advent ACM150. Had to install 12 volt system for thermostat and fish both 110 and 12 volt wire through walls and ceiling. A/C turned on perfectly the very first time I pushed the thermostat on button. Wowee...100 degrees outside; 69 degrees in the van. Absolutely life changing for me an my doggies. P.S. I am a nice 75 year old lady and still cannot believe I did this install all by myself. One year and miles later, this A/C is perfect!
Works great better then old Domic ever worked. The only problem is had was with the 6 pin connection the old one had rounded ends new one had flat ends made it hard to get plug in.but I am very happy with the unit cools great.
Works great! Had an issue with the thermostat, but Bill walked me through it to get my AC up and running again.
The unit has never worked right. It doesn't ever shut off. I have always had my A/C set on auto so when it reaches too hot, it will come on and when it cools to a set temperature, it cuts the unit off. This unit will not do it. I have to go and turn the breaker on to turn the unit on and then go and turn the breaker off to shut the unit off otherwise it will run none stop.
The only problem was that the Connection was wrong. It should’ve been male instead of female. It would be nice to maybe put a gender bender connector in the box. Otherwise everything worked perfect. Just a suggestion thank you.
The unit was supposed to be plug and play compatible with the dometic controller. That is why the 4 star review. The plug had female pins instead of male pins. Other than that the unit performed as expected.
Easy to install, you just need a male to male 6 pin converter to attach to old Dometic controllers.
Other than that, excellent.
And as a bonus, it's quieter than the old Dometic I had.
Bought an Advent for a direct replacement for my living room a/c last year. Bedroom a/c went out this year. Have had great success with the replacement from last year. Easy plug and play installation.
Needed a male connector off of the air conditioner was a female connector of the air conditioner had to swap off old air conditioner
It installed in the same place as the old Colman and installed fairly easy. However the “direct” replacement as advertised is not entirely true. The air delivery box will not work. The control and thermostat will not work so I ordered more parts from here and I’m still waiting on it to arrive to see if I wasted my $800 or not. So far not real good feeling about it.
Looks much better than the hail damaged one it replaced! Six prong plug was “plug and play”, had to remove the two wire temperature sensor from the old to the new; and after reconnecting one of the wires going to the thermostat that came undone during the installation process, everything works great. Good air flow through the ductwork. I am pleased I was able to save lots of money doing it myself! Thank you etrailer.
Easy to install but need a new thermostat setup to be compatible with r32 freon
Well I already told you the unit was damaged in transit, I did repair it by myself, it was dented in next to the compressor area, subframe metal was dented, plus the units wiring harness was identical to the receiver end of the existing on the rv wiring box, in other words, the prongs weren't received into each other, since they were the same, so even tho I may have ruined my warranty by cutting the end off the unit and wire nutting the old one in its place,but it works, could just fine, the old unit was 19 years old, everything is still the same on the unit, it was light weight, and cools just fine
This is my fourth Advent unit I have purchased recently. The units themselves function well and customers are very happy but, on every unit, the six pin connector would not fully engage with the existing control box. Could not adjust the pins in the connector so is was forced to rewire unit using the old unit harness. I am considering going in another direction in the future.
As I stated after my last purchase of a Advent AC. The six pin plug at the end of the umbilical cord does not engage with existing control boxes force a rewire of the cord using the old 6 pin connector. I'm thinking of using another brand and distributor in the future
If you really have NO experience with rooftop units, maybe you should go with a complete kit (including the control box/thermostat). If you have "some idea" of what you are doing, you can figure it out. This unit comes with a six pin plug that feeds the fan and compressor. Nothing more. Not even a wiring schematic. Not a big deal if you know how to connect things up. But if you don't, yea, go for the whole kit. We installed this on a 2005 31' Jamboree motorhome. I had to clip the connector off and connect it the old fashioned way (head scratchin' and wire nuts). I also used the control box original to our RV (more connector cutting, etc.). Still, it took only a couple hours to install. It looks great, works great, and (the most important part) the wife is happy. Our old, original unit still worked but was pulling about 27 amps - way too high. I think the power problems we had at an RV park a year ago (very low voltage) killed the compressor (low voltage = lots more heat). This one is pulling about 13 amps. Oh, you really should get some help getting it to the roof. I don't have any friends so I did it myself (sucked!). But it can be done. Just be really careful, take your time, think it through, and stretch those muscles before you get under it. Hopefully, you have a friend or two who can help. Ok. I'm off to take a nap in the cool air.
First one made it in quick but I was slightly disappointed when my electrician wired it in and the fan motor didn't work. That disappointment faded as soon as I called customer support. Not only were they polite and helpful, they shipped the replacement before receiving my return which meant I didn't have a gaping hole in my roof to keep covered long. New one works perfectly. Couldn't be happier with the customer service I received. Will definitely be a returning customer.
As of 5/24/26 @ 15:00 hrs central time the Advent ACM135B is installed and fully operational, cooling the bedroom of my rv perfectly.
Product arrived in excellent condition with no defects. Installation was as expected. Did rent a material lift from Home Depot which made the trip to the roof much easier and safe for this old man of 75yrs.

This was a direct replacement for my 2013 Dometic AC unit right down to the 6 pin plug and the mounting bolts. It hooked up to the existing control unit without issue and runs all speeds.
The part has been great. Easy to Install. I may have missed it in the write up but it wasn't a direct fit as it needed a 9 pin to 6 pin adapter harness for my RV. Fortunately, my mobile mechanic had one in his truck so we didn't have to make on. I believe etrailer sells it for around $50.

Notes: The frame of the AC unit is dented in several spots. Otherwise, new and unused.
