Question:
Hello, My friend is giving me his PWC and trailer. Only wrinkle is that I have to go get it. The trailer is a Triton LTWCI and, I’m assuming, based on the year of the ski a 2006. It’s at his parent beach house in Delaware and I’m down in Virginia Beach. Anyway, trailer looks good except for the hubs and tires. The tires are 4.80-12 and, according to his dad, on a 5x5 lug pattern. I cannot find a tire/rim combination in this size anywhere. I was hoping you guys to could me a determine the rim/tire size I actually need b recommend a new tire/rim combo that is trustworthy and c recommend the require hub assemblies so that when I go get it I can just put new hubs on it and new tires and be on my way without worry of something going sour. Thanks a bunch, Chris

Hi Chris!
I would be shocked if the wheels have a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. I don't think I have ever seen a 12" wheel with that bolt pattern. They will typically have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and I would encourage you to have him look at the picture I am including to double check.
If it's a 5 on 4-1/2, as I am pretty sure it is, the Loadstar 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM30670 would make a good replacement. It can support up to 990-lb per tire and will definitely cover your journey back, and many more.
In the off chance it is indeed a 5 on 5 bolt pattern, I would swap that out for the much more common and more standard 5 on 4-1/2 I mentioned above. That way you can find replacements (I couldn't find anyone making a 12" wheel with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern anywhere online). You would definitely need to swap the hubs out for that, but if you were planning on doing that anyway, it wouldn't really cause any issues.
As to the hubs, I couldn't find any info on the axle for a Triton LTWCI, which is making finding replacements difficult. Odds are you will need something for a 2,000 pound axle, but there are still two variations to choose from. They are very similar so it does need an accurate measurement, but I have both listed below:
Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles (1" spindle) - 10" to 12" Wheels - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKIHUB-545-2-1K
Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles (1.063" spindle) - 10" to 12" Wheels - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKIHUB-545-2-2K
That .063" difference makes a big difference and if it's wrong, the hub either won't fit or there will be too much room and you can destroy the axle. If he has any spare bearings, he can use that to figure it out as well. The 1" spindle will use an # L44643 bearing and the 1.063" spindle will use an # L44649 bearing.
Sorry to be throwing so much at you, but I want to make sure everything works out and you get to have fun with your jet ski!
Let me know what you find out. Especially if anything I mentioned doesn't match up.
