Replacement SAE Port for Solar Panels

Updated 09/03/2025 | Published 08/04/2025

Question:

Hi. I have a rigid Lighleaf solar panel model BN140 connected to a GoPower Pure Sine Wave inverter model GP-SW1500TS on my 2024 Black Bean trailer. The connection recently broke. Attached are pics. Thinking the Go Power RV SAE Port for Portable Solar Panels - 10 Feetinch is a good replacement for the inverters female side of the connection. What product do I need on the solar panels male side? Thanks!

Hey Julie, thanks for the pictures! You are correct the Go Power RV SAE Port for Portable Solar Panels item # GP49QR is exactly what you need to replace your broken one.

We do not carry Lighleaf solar panels but it looks like the SAE plug is wired directly to 110W and 140w models so you'll need the etrailer SAE Cable Adapter item # e84RV.

Does your solar panel have a connector on the other end or is the SAE male plug wired in directly to the panel?

My ZAMP 10 Awg solar extension cord did the same thing. The male end of the SAE plug end broke off in the trailers SAE receiver. I dug out the male end, created a jumper to make that connection on continued camping. The plug end is now useless and I’d love to use your SAE extension. My concern is yours is only 14 AWG and recommendations are to not go below 10-12 AWG or loose power on a long Extension cord. Do you have a thicker 15 foot extension cord? If not do you have an SAE spliceable plug end for my cable? Thanks.

@JoeC The only other option I would have for a male SAE connector is the Goal Zero SAE to Ring Terminal Connector item # GZ59MR. This is made of 12 gauge wire. It's 21" long from the SAE connector to the end of the ring terminal but you could definitely cut that plug off and use it to repair your damaged extension cord.

@JerredH Thanks for the reply and suggestion. The 12 awg wire and SAE end may work. In the interim I ordered a 3 pack of 12awg SAE extensions and will splice them on. The catch is ZAMP has a rounded end on the female side so a box knife or Dremel tool will come out to trim the edges to fit the ZAMP receiver on the camper. ZAMP makes the repair tricky due to proprietary end but can be overcome, I hope.

@JoeC You're welcome! That's always frustrating when manufacturer's do things like that.
