Video Transcript for Review of the Go Power RV SAE Port for Portable Solar Panels

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com, and today we're gonna take a real quick look at this Go Power RV SAE Port for portable solar panels. Now, this SAE port can be installed on the outside of your RV to give you an easy way to plug in a portable solar panel to charge your batteries. This is compatible with kits that include an SAE cable or adapter, like the GoPro 200 watt panel that you see there on your screen. And I have the model number of that solar panel for your reference there. And this is going to permanently install on the exterior wall of your RV.

And then, this 10 foot wire will connect to your DC electrical system. So, as you can see, this SAE port has a cap that you can use to keep that port clean. When not in use, it'll protect it. And that's going to conclude our real quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you.

Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

  • Portable Solar Panel for 2020 Brookstone 310RL
Hi Jay; if all you're looking to do is maintain the batteries without any power draw you can use a panel like the # MA56JR. If you actually want to be able to charge the batteries/maintain power from small loads in the trailer you will need something larger. Assuming that is the case, the 100 Watt # GP66FR or 200 Watt # 34282610 would be the right choice. All of these will fit an SAE plug like # GP49QR which is what you probably have on the front of your trailer.

  • Replacement SAE Port for Solar Panels
Hey Julie, thanks for the pictures! You are correct the Go Power RV SAE Port for Portable Solar Panels item # GP49QR is exactly what you need to replace your broken one. We do not carry Lighleaf solar panels but it looks like the SAE plug is wired directly to 110W and 140w models so you'll need the etrailer SAE Cable Adapter item # e84RV. Does your solar panel have a connector on the other end or is the SAE male plug wired in directly to the panel?

  • Parts Needed for Travel Trailer Pre-Wired for Solar
Hi Marty; depending on what your solar pre-wiring entails the Go Power PWM Solar Charge Controller # GP76QR and Go Power Overlander Expansion Kit - 200 Watt Solar Panel # 34282182 may be what you need. Do you have a sticker somewhere on the wall inside that is marked for a specific Go Power PWM Solar Charge Controller? It would look similar to the one attached below. If you have this sticker/template, along with an entry plate like # 34273840 on top of your trailer, then these parts will...

  • Parts Needed To Added A Portable Solar Panel System To A Fixed-Mounted System's Charge Controller
Hi Roger, What charge controller do you currently have? Most fixed charge controllers will only have a port for bare wire to slot into and a screw to hold it down so adding in a portable panel at the controller might not be possible unless you have a second input port for the extra panel. You would also need to ensure that adding the 100w panel in wouldn't put you over the capacity of the charge controller with your other panels. Another factor to consider is that if your other panels...

  • Recommended Wire Extension for the Go Power RV Port for Portable Solar Panels
Hey Todd, unfortunately the Go Power RV SAE for Portable Solar Panels # GP49QR is not available in 10 AWG. For an extension you can use the 12 Gauge 2 Conductor Jacketed (Brake) Wire Per Foot # 12-2-1 since it's just bonded 12 AWG wire used on the pigtail. I'd recommend using the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector # DW05745-10 to make your wire connections. I used to use these for everything when I was building performance boats and they always held up great, so I have no doubts that they'll...

  • Solar Panel for Battery on Cargo Trailer for LED Lights
Hey Steven! It sounds like that battery is running down and not getting recharged to power the lights. The panel, controller, and wiring are all you need to add solar to your cargo trailer. I recommend using a portable panel like the Go Power DuraLite Portable Solar Panel with Digital Solar Controller # GP66FR. You can run this directly to your battery through an open door or you can install an SAE Port # GP49QR on the side of the trailer to connect to the solar panel. This also gives...

  • Will Solar Port Inlet for Furrion Solar Panel Battery Charger Work With Dometic Solar on the Side
Hi Sara; the Solar Port Inlet for Furrion Solar Panel Battery Charger # FSPINS-BS is only rated for 10 amps. With that label I would already expect you to have an SAE port like # GP49QR mounted somewhere on the trailer tongue. Did you have a port you're trying to replace or are you trying to add one because you don't have it? If you don't have one, then this Go Power SAE port rated for 20 amps is what I recommend using since that is standard for portable solar panels.

  • What Is the Wire Size On the Go Power RV SAE Port for Portable Solar Panels

  • How to Determine if the Go Power DuraLite Portable Solar Panel Expansion is the Correct Option
The Go Power DuraLite Portable Solar Panel Expansion # GP76FR was designed to expand DuraLite solar kits or to be used with the Go Power DuraCUBE Portable Power Station # GP82RR. If that is what you have, then this kit will work well. The Go Power DuraLite Portable Solar Panel Expansion # GP76FR kit will need the 2-Wire Trailer Adapter for Go Power Portable Solar Kits # GP72VR to work with the Go Power RV SAE Port for Portable Solar Panels # GP49QR and Extension Cable for Go Power Portable...

  • How to Add RV SAE Port to GP-PWM-10-SQ Wiring
Hi Derek; instead of running the wires directly to the solar panel as seen below you will be adding in the # GP49QR. The wires for the port will connect to the controller where the solar panel connects in the diagram. Then you mount the port wherever you want it and plug your solar panel in and you're ready to go.

  • Solar Panel For A 2019 Forrest River Wildwood With A Solar Ready Furrion 10 amp Plug
Hello William. So yes, the 10 amp you are seeing does indicate the max amperage it can handle for a solar panel. The Go Power portable solar systems use the SAE and XLR-style solar plugs which is what Furrion uses. Since your circuit is rated for 10 amps I recommend the Go Power Portable Solar Panel with Digital Solar Controller # 34282730 which comes with a 130 watt panel and has an output of 6.74 amps.

  • Recommended SAE and 110V Connectors for an RV
Hey Domingo, thanks for reaching out to us! We don't have a setup with both of those ports combined, but I do have separate ports for each type of connection you're looking for: - SAE # GP49QR - 110V # 329-GCP1 Both of these come with plug to protect them from the elements when you aren't using them.
