Does 2015 Ford F-150 Need Brake Light Relay with Diode Tow Bar Lighting

Updated 07/27/2025 | Published 07/19/2025

Question:

Hello: I have a 2015 f-150 FX4. I have an Exacli-bar tow bar i got from my dad. I found the adapter for the truck but, I am confused on the wiring for the lights. found a kit, but then it talks about an additional kit to prevent the brake lights and turn signals interfering with each other. And then it talks about a battery mender........ can you help me with what i need? I want to get it correct the first time. When the truck is off, and i hit the brakes, the lights do come on. Thanks Steve

Hey Steve, thanks for all of the info you listed on your vehicle and light setup. So you would need a brake lite relay part # RM-88400 so that the braking system you use would not override the turn signals of your lighting system. Which lighting kit are you wanting to go with? If it's the Demco part # DM9523010-54 this is a fit for your truck and the relay system.

Do you have a braking system picked out?

I do not yet at this moment. My motorhome does not have a brake controller either, and i assume i will need to install one...? The cable from the motorhome to the truck i have already with the bar. I just need the attachment on the F150. Any suggestions you may have, i would appreciate.

@Steve You actually don't need to have a brake controller installed in your motorhome but you do need a supplemental braking system which is different. A simpler solution that works great is the Blue Ox Patriot part # BLU37TR which you'd install in the floor board of your vehicle and it applies the brakes as hard as it feels you are pressing the MH brakes. What do you mean by cable though? Is that the lighting you are referring to?
