Parts Needed to Replace Ducted Dometic AC With Furrion Chill Cube

Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/15/2025

Question:

I’m trying to figure out what I need to replace two old dometic duo therm roof AC’s with Furrion chill cubes. Ducted system, I do have a furnace so I get that this thermostat will control the furnace and one of the AC’s. My question is, would this thermostat be replacing the existing Dometic 5 button, 2 zone thermostat, and if so is it plug and play or are modifications needed? I understand it is single zone, Could I set the wall thermostat up to control the furnace and front AC and have the rear ac controlled just with the IR remote?

Hey Kyle! The Thermostat for Furrion Chill Cube Ducted RV Air Conditioners # LC74DX would replace your existing Dometic thermostat. Your old thermostat won't be compatible with the system since it was designed for the old R410A units and everything has switched to R32 refrigerant.

You have a few options to make everything work. The first is to go ahead and leave the existing wall thermostat to control your furnace and run both Chill Cubes # FR99TD (white) or # FR39TD (black) off of their remotes/ADB. Assuming your thermostat has this capability it is what I recommend right now.

The Furrion thermostat has some compatibility issues depending on your exact furnace and how it is wired. It is designed to work with a 2-wire system, but even some of those have had issues. The thermostat was just released and when I talked to Furrion about this they basically told me it just won't work with some setups. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence so I would keep everything separate to make it simple. I still recommend the Chill Cube, it is the best system out there right now in my opinion, but the furnace compatibility is a potential problem.

If you want to try to make it work, and you're sure you have a 2-wire furnace, you can tie a single Chill Cube together with the furnace and run the other off of the remote. If you go this route you will need one of the Chill Cubes listed above and then the # FR69TD (white) or # FR49TD (black) which includes the wall thermostat. The control box plugs into the Chill Cube but the rest is not plug and play and will require wiring the thermostat as seen in the attached picture.

Any big trips planned with your trailer this summer?

Hey Kyle, how did everything work out with setting up your Furrion Chill Cubes? Did you decide to keep the systems separate or try to integrate the thermostat with your furnace? I'm curious to know because it could really help others in a similar situation!
