When your solar setup isn't charging like it should, this MPPT controller improves energy harvest with ultrafast tracking. Built-in Bluetooth lets you monitor and adjust settings in real time, so you can see consistent charging performance.
When your panels spend the day in passing clouds or partial shade, cheap controllers leave usable output behind. This controller uses ultrafast Maximum Power Point Tracking and an advanced partial shading algorithm to keep locking onto the best power point. You see steadier charging instead of wattage dropping off every time conditions shift.
Small controllers become the bottleneck fast when you add panels or move up from PWM. This unit is rated for 50 amps with nominal PV power of 700 watts at 12V and 1,400 watts at 24V, so it fits larger small-to-mid systems before you need to step up again. That gives you a clearer ceiling when you're planning an expansion instead of finding the limit after the install.
When the controller is buried in a compartment, basic setup and troubleshooting turn into a chore. Built-in Bluetooth Smart works through the VictronConnect app for wireless setup, monitoring, synchronization, firmware updates, battery presets, configuration tools, and real-time performance data. You can check charging stages and change battery settings from your phone instead of opening panels just to see what's happening.
Switching battery chemistry can force a controller replacement if the charge profile is wrong. This one is compatible with lithium, AGM, gel, and flooded batteries, with adaptive charging profiles, temperature compensated charging, and fully discharged battery recovery that initiates charging from zero volts and reconnects to Li ion batteries with integrated disconnect protection. The system keeps charging the battery type you have now and still supports the next upgrade.
Charging problems are expensive when a controller runs hot, backfeeds current, or lets the battery get abused over time. SafetyShield+ adds battery protection, with over temperature protection and safeguards against PV short circuit, reverse polarity, and reverse current. Paired with the intelligent charge algorithm that manages bulk, absorption, and float stages, it gives you charging behavior that stays controlled instead of drifting into battery damage.

Hi, everyone. Steve here with etrailer. Let's take a look at the Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT 100/50. This is a high-performance solar charge controller that's been designed to help you harvest the most energy from those solar panels and keep your batteries charged efficiently. Now, once again, folks, this uses the maximum power point tracking, MPPT, to continuously optimize power from your solar array. So even when it's, like, less than optimal conditions, whether it's changing light, partial shade, you're gonna get more energy into your batteries with this than the traditional controllers that are out there on the market.
Rated for 50 amps of charging, it supports up to about 700 watts on the 12 volt system and 1400 watts on, like, a 24 volt system, so that should give you plenty of capacity for larger RV, boat, off-grid, or even cabin setups. The SmartSolar automatically detects your system's voltage. It's gonna use adaptive multistage charging, and that's gonna protect and extend your battery life whether you're using lead acid, AGM, gel, or lithium batteries. It does have built-in Bluetooth technology that lets you monitor real-time performance, and configure those settings easily from a smartphone with the VictronConnect app. So it's a free app.
I recommend you get it, download it. It is super, super effective, and it's really, really robust. It has a whole lot of options on it. I was checking it out earlier before our time together and I was pretty impressed with it. There's also a VE.Direct port for integration with Victron GX systems and data logging.
So folks, this is a nice compact design. As you can see, it's pretty small, roughly seven and 5/16 inches long, five and 1/8 inches deep if you're looking at this direction, and about two and 3/4 inches thick. So again, if you want efficient, intelligent solar charging that's gonna maximize every ray of sunshine, this 50 amp SmartSolar MPP controller is a good solid choice.
