Does An Air Bag Kit Eliminate The Need For A Weight Distribution Hitch

Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/11/2025

Question:

Will a air bag system eliminate the need for a WDH. I have a 2024 Ram 3500 4WD pulling a 38foot Keystone, 10000lbs, hitch 1055 lbs. Thanks

Hello Mike, thanks for reaching out. An air bag system can help to resolve some of the same issued a WD hitch would. Air bags level your ride which helps with stability, sway, handling and braking. The WD hitch helps to level the camper and actively prevent sway. So depending on your setup, the air bags might be all you need, but if the sway is severe, a WDH would also be beneficial.

Here is what I recommend for your 2024 Ram 2500 4WD:

- Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # AL57231

- Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - 7-Hole Shank - 13K GTW, 1.3K TW # BLU27FR

If you are having more sagging than sway, the air bag kit will be more suited for you. If the sway is bad, do the WDH. Or if you want to address both, get both.

Hey Mike, how did the air bag system work out for your Ram and Keystone setup? I'm curious to know if it helped with the stability and handling or if you decided to go with a weight distribution hitch as well. Your experience could really help others in a similar situation!
