This is going to be one of these "definite maybe" type answers, Skip.
Is it possible? Well yeah, anything is possible with enough imagination and hard work. So with that said, I think the two spare tire carriers I have below will be the ones you want to look at.
Redline Spare Tire Carrier - Horse Trailer # 413200
Demco Trailer Stake Pocket Spare Tire Mount - Black # DM15850-76
Either of these would be able to mount to the wall of a cargo trailer, so you could technically put it wherever you want. You would need to make some kind of backing plate for the Redline option (and probably a better one for the Demco), but I think one of these will get you where you want to be. I included a picture of a guy that did something similar to what you are looking to do with the Redline carrier as an example.
Do you not have any room at the front of your trailer?

Hey Skip, how did it go with mounting the spare tire on your trailer? Did one of the suggested tire carriers work out for you? I'm curious because it might help others looking to do something similar.
