Question:

Hi: Im looking for a spare tire mount to go on the outside of a horse trailer. It will need to be fasted to the sheet-metal side of the trailer, but I can provide backing plates or other structure inside, and the weight of the tire can be supported on the running board of the trailer. Do you have any suggestions?

Hey Stephen,

For mounting a spare tire on your horse trailer, the Redline Spare Tire Carrier part # 413200 is your best option for mounting a tire with 5,6, or 8 bolts on the outside wall. Because you're wanting to mount it to the wall, the # 413200 is your best option since other mounts are for the bumper or trailer tongues. Like you mentioned, it will require support on the inside in order for it to be safely mounted. You can do this by attaching wood cross braces inside the trailer between vertical frame posts. Then, you'll need to drill holes through the carrier and bolt it through the side of the trailer and into the wood cross braces.

Where on the outside of the trailer are you planning to mount the spare tire?
