Hello Warren,

The Vitrifrigo # VT79FR is a fantastic pick for a box van kitchen because it’s compact, efficient, and designed with mobile living in mind. It gives you 2.6 cubic feet of storage space (enough for a good amount of fresh food, drinks, and even frozen items) without taking up a bunch of room in your layout. Its sleek front and built-in freezer make it feel like a real home fridge, but in a van-friendly package. Plus, it vents from the front, so you can tuck it neatly into a cabinet space without worrying about airflow issues behind it.

What really makes this fridge shine is its power flexibility. It’s built to run on either 12V or 24V DC battery power or standard 110–240V AC shore power, which means you can use it while you’re on the road, and then let it automatically switch over to shore power when you're parked and plugged in. While running on 12V, it draws about 3.3 amps (roughly 40 watts), which is very manageable for most camper van battery setups. When plugged into shore power, it draws about 0.5 amps at 120V, which is super low and easy on your system.

Wiring it is pretty straightforward. On the 12V side, you’ll want to use thicker wire, like 10-gauge or larger, especially if your fridge is located more than a few feet from the battery. That helps prevent voltage drop and ensures the fridge runs efficiently. For shore power, you can plug it into a regular outlet or run it through an inverter if you're off-grid. If you’re wiring it directly into a 120V circuit, just make sure the system is properly grounded and protected through a small breaker or GFCI outlet.

It’s also built for life on the move. The door has a secure latch to keep it closed while you’re driving, and the cooling system keeps working even in hot van interiors. It runs quietly too, which is a big plus if you're sleeping nearby.

What kind of van did you convert to a camper?

Hey Warren, How did the Vitrifrigo fridge work out for your box van kitchen setup? I'm curious to know if the switching between battery and plug-in power met your needs, as it could help others planning similar conversions.
