Hey Mark,

Although the Active Controls # AS97FR is designed for RV applications it can work on a 20 amp house circuit for you. Its bread and butter is AC units but works great with refrigerators or other appliances that are causing that circuit to trip.

What appliance or item is causing yours to trip?

Hey Marty, no the SoftStartup part #SSR64FR is not a surge protector. It will help reduce the large surge of power needed to fire up an AC unit but it does not have any surge protection.
