The difference between the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 7,000 lbs # 23-180-181 and the # 23-105-106 you mentioned are the strength of the brake magnets.
The # 23-180-181 was designed for 7000lb axles where the # 23-105-106 was designed for 6000lb axles so it has slightly weaker brake magnets.
They are both 12" x 2" brakes so they are interchangeable, but you will want to match them to the weight rating of your axle to make sure you get adequate braking for your trailer.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.

Hello! I have a 40ft PJ Gooseneck with fuel 10000 lb axels and fully tires! I am looking to order new brake assemblies all the way around! Two questions.. 1. The shoe is 12”x 2” new, what is the new thickness? 2. When I pulled the drum off to look at the actuators, one of the magnets was dangling down with the spring off? It looked as if it where stretched out? Can you send me pics or video of how the magnet and spring are attached to the actuator? With out it attached and pushed in it is a bugger to get drum back on one handed? Thank you! God Bless!
