Can I Use Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank Or Other Brand With Andersen Weight Distribution?

Question:

Can I use Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank - 2-1/2inch Hitches - 7inch /Rise - 2,400 lbs TW 325-GH-1302 with the Andersen hitch? Just wondering as my Forest River Salem FSX bumper pull came with a Gen Y shank and a Curt WDH but the Curt is old and noisy friction bar style so I want the quiet Andersen series. thanks

Good afternoon Daniel, great question!
Typically the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank - 2-1/2" Hitches # 325-GH-1302 can be used with other systems as most brands of WDH use the same size shanks, but in the case of Andersen, the answer is no.

The reason for this is because Andersen uses their own proprietary weight distribution shank/head and it's not interchangeable among other brands. It sounds bad, but it's actually quite good because the Andersen setup is far less bulky, way less weight, and much easier to install and use than other systems.

By the way, nice trailer you got there! I've been looking for a Forest River R Pod but haven't found one in my price range yet.

FYI, there are a few different WDH systems from Andersen. Your Forest River Salem FSX falls well in the range of the Andersen 4" Drop/Rise - 10K GTW, 1.4K TW #AN88VR (2" receiver) or 6" Drop/Rise version # AN28VR (2" receiver).

There are also higher weight capacity systems:
-Andersen 6" Drop/Rise - 14K GTW, 1.4K TW # AN53VR (2" receiver)
-Andersen 6" Drop/Rise - 14K GTW, 1.4K TW # AN69VR (2-1/2" receiver)
-Andersen 4" Drop/Rise - 16K GTW, 1.6K TW # AN33VR (2" receiver)
