Question:
New to trailers and we are considering buying a camper with an 800 lb tongue weight. My truck is a 2017 Chevy Silverado LTZ with a 5.3 liter engine and a short bed/double cab. My truck recommendation says no more that 880 lbs tongue weight. If we buy a weight distribution w/ sway control not sure if it is this one or not, will this system ADD to the tongue weight directly or, because its weight distributing, will it not affect it?

Hey Jeff! The B&W Continuum # BW28FR, and other weight distribution systems, do not add to the tongue weight of your setup. It becomes part of the hitch and frame of the vehicle so you don't have to worry about the weight of the system pushing you over your capacity. As long as the tongue weight of the trailer, combined with any cargo behind your rear axle, does not exceed 880 lbs you're good to go.
The Continuum is a great choice for any setup. It is especially nice that is is fully adjustable, so you can dial it in when you're fully loaded or a little lighter coming home. If you want to be able to drop your tailgate and clear your jack while hooked up I would consider the # BW64BR which has the extended shank for extra clearance.
What kind of camper are you considering?

Jeff, if you have not yet purchased a camper and are going just form what the specs say on the camper...you need actually load it up with all your gear then get an accurate weight with a scale. The specs on my camper said the hitch weight was 750, however when I have all my gear loaded with filled propane tanks, the actual tongue weight is right at 950.
