Can 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector 12V Wire Be Swapped With 10 Gauge
Updated 05/04/2025 | Published 05/01/2025 >
Question:
How hard would it be to swap the Battery cable for a 10-gauge wire? I am installing this with a 30 amp breaker connected to my battery and Id like to use the right sized cable for that breaker.

Hi Josh! If you want to use the 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector # HM40975-11998 you're going to have to stick with 12 gauge and use a 20 amp breaker. The wiring and connector on the US car connector are completely sealed so you won't be able to swap it without breaking it. If you want to use this connector style that is your only option unless you can find a US car connector that accepts 10 gauge wire and you can wire yourself. Then you can plug it into the # HM40975.
