Can I Use Another Brand to Replace Coleman Model 4800 Dual Setup with Integrated Control System

Question:
I have an integrated control system that runs two Coleman model 4800 air conditioning units. One of them has gone bad. I want to use my same controller and just replace the AC unit. What do you recommend

Hi Robert, sorry to hear one of your Coleman 4800 A/C units went out, that’s never fun in an RV, especially with summer coming up! I wish I could say you could just swap out your broken Coleman unit with another brand and have everything work perfectly with your current setup but unfortunately, that's pretty unlikely. Most of these systems aren't cross-compatible, especially when you're dealing with an integrated control system.
You’ve got two solid options:
The easiest route is to just replace the broken unit with the same exact Coleman Model 4800. That way, everything will plug right in and work with no issues. There may be some newer models of Coleman that are compatible with your control system but I can't say for sure. Coleman would be able to provide more information on that. If you decide to go this route, I would recommend doing it sooner rather than later because the Coleman ACs are transitioning to R-32 refrigerant from R-410A and compatibilities may change with the newer units.
Or, if you're open to switching things up, you could go with a completely new system that would operate independently from the Coleman setup like the Furrion Chill Cube, along with a matching air distribution box and thermostat like part # FR65TD. It’s a great setup.
Let me know what you think.
