Best D-Ring Adapter For 1999 Jeep TJ With 1" D-Rings

Updated 04/21/2025 | Published 04/12/2025

Question:

Hello, My 99 Jeep TJ wrangler has a custom front bumper with D rings. I’m looking for a setup to flat tow it. The D rings are 1/4” thick, 1” hole, and spaced 32-1/2 apart. They are thru welded and suitable for towing. Also looking for the wiring kit as well. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated!

Hello Mike, thanks for reaching out. The Blue Ox Off-Road Bumper Adapters # BX88358 are what I recommend for D-rings with 1" holes. These will work with any of the Blue Ox brand tow bars.

Since your D-rings are spaced 32-1/2" apart you will need to use the Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7420 since this is the only option we offer from Blue Ox that will work with that D-ring spacing.

For the wiring kit I recommend the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-15267. This is a universal diode kit that works on virtually any vehicle. Once installed you just plug in and go.

Then the last thing you will need is a braking system. For that I recommend the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo # SM99251. You will also need the # RM-88400 relay kit.

I linked a few helpful install videos for you below.

I hope this helps. Leave a reply below with any other questions or comments and I am happy to get back to you.

Thank you for the detailed response! I noticed the Blue Ox Adventurer shows it will work with tab widths up to 36" - would this be an acceptable alternative to the Avail? I am trying to be cost-effective, as this towing setup will be used infrequently.

@Mike Yes! The Blue Ox Adventurer # BX7322 will work with the 32-1/2" spacing. it is definitely a budget option but if you won't be using it much it will be just fine to use with your setup.
