What Hitch and Wiring do I Want for My 2017 Volvo V90? Will Wiring Trigger Parking Sensors?

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 04/11/2025

Question:

Im seeking to add a trailer hitch to my 2017 V90 CC. After researching multiple options, Ive decided to go with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2inch C13305. While not specified for my model/year, numerous V90 owners have confirmed this hitch will work. I would also like to add a lighting option for when I use a trailer. Can you confirm the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector C59236 is the correct wiring harness AND, this will then power the trailer lights in-line with the taillights e.g. they will turn on when the taillights are on and active when the brake lights are activated. Additionally, can you confirm the onlyinch downsides to not using OEM are 1 the need to splice into the rear taillights AND 2 the rear parking sensors will be triggered when using a trailer e.g., the OEM module would deactivate this function when trailering. Thanks.

Hell Brandon,

I wonder why Curt does not have one specifically for your 2017 Volvo V90. I do want to make you aware that Curt does not have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13305 fitting the V90, so even if it is does physically fit by installing it on the V90 could void any warranty on the hitch. With that being said, we have a customer that did successfully install it on his V90, I attached the picture he included with his review.

We do have the Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # SH67FR which is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Volvo V90, it is quite a bit more because the receiver does come off when it is not in use.

the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236 will need to be spliced in, is actually a great match for your 2017 Volvo V90, and in most cases, it won’t interfere with your rear parking sensors. That’s because this converter is powered directly from the battery and just uses the car’s tail light wires to trigger the trailer lights, rather than drawing power from them. This setup helps protect your car’s sensitive electronics, which is super important on a modern vehicle like the V90 that uses a CAN Bus system.

That said, the key is in the installation. If it’s wired up correctly using the right signal wires, grounding properly, and running the power line to the battery with the included fuse, you shouldn’t have any issues. Problems usually pop up if someone accidentally taps into the wrong wires (like low-voltage control lines), or grounds it to a bad spot. That can confuse the sensors or even trigger error messages on your dash, which no one wants.

To answer your other question, yes, this wiring will get your running lights, brake lights, and turn signals working. Basically it gets everything working on the trailer besides the brakes, that would need additional wiring.

What are you looking to tow with your V90?

Hey Brandon, how did things go with the Curt wiring harness on your V90? Did it power your trailer lights as expected without setting off the parking sensors? Your update could make it easier for others working on the same setup.
