Do Westin HDX Nerf Bars W46TQ Install On The Frame Or The Rocker Panel?

Question:
I have a 2025 Ram 1500 crew cab and I am looking to purchase a set of wheels to wheel HDX nerf bars with the down steps. Are they frame mounted or rocker box mounted and what is the weight rating on them. I am asking because I had a set of running boards on my 2017 Ram and the rear and middle mounts actually tore out sections of the sheet metal damaging the truck.

Hello Gene, thanks for reaching out. The Westin HDX Nerf Bars # W46TQ you were looking at are the correct fit for your 2025 Ram 1500 crew cab. These attach to the rocker panel, and there will be factory nuts welded at the mounting bracket location. Take a look at the diagram below. The rocker panels are prone to rusting over the years but your truck is brand new so you should be able to install without issue. Keep the underside of the truck clean, and try to touch up any scratches or chips on the brackets periodically and things will last a lot longer.
Westin does not provide specific weight capacities for their running boards anymore. They say this is because different kits install in different locations on different vehicles. Typically these rocker panel style running boards have a 300 lb max capacity so to play it safe 300 is a good number to stick with.
I have also a link to the manufacturer instructions below.
Leave a reply with any other questions or comments and I will get back to you.

Hey Gene, how did the Westin HDX Nerf Bars end up working on your Ram 1500? Did the rocker panel mounts feel solid once everything was in place? Your feedback could really help others worried about strength and mounting points on newer trucks.
