Recommended 3" Wide Continuous Hinge

Updated 03/14/2025 | Published 03/08/2025

Question:

I have a 1996 wells cargo enclosed trailer with a ramp door, part of the continuous hinge broke off on the ramp side because of rusting out. It has a 3/4 rod going through several pieces of pipe, there is no zerk fittings to lube. What is your recommendation of repair or upgrade?

Hey Leif! I checked with Wells Cargo and the closest thing we have to what you described and they sell is the 3" Wide Continuous Hinge - 6' Long - Aluminum item # MA74ZR. This measures 6' long x 3" wide and each side of the foldable hinge measures 1-1/2" wide. It only has a pin diameter of 1/4".

How long is your continuous hinge?

My ramp is 6 1/2' wide, and its like several pipes welded to the frame and to the ramp with a long 3/4" steel rod going through all pipes. Is that 3" hinge strong enough? I would have to cut the old hinge off and drill and screw new hinge on?

@Leif Thanks for the information! You're going to want to step up to heavier duty hinge for your ramp. The 4" Wide Continuous Hinge - 6' Long item # MA42VR is going to be a better option. This one is made of steel, has a 5/8" pin, and can be either welded or bolted on.
